Tata Electronics Private Limited and ASMPT Singapore have entered into a strategic partnership to advance India’s semiconductor ecosystem. The newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focuses on semiconductor assembly and test facilities, aiming to create a robust infrastructure and deliver cutting-edge solutions.

This partnership is set against the backdrop of Tata Electronics’ expansive efforts to transform India into a global electronics manufacturing hub. Dr. Randhir Thakur, Managing Director & CEO of Tata Electronics, highlighted the company’s ambitious vision, stating, “We aim to position India as a leading electronics manufacturing destination by providing integrated solutions throughout the electronics value chain. Our partnership with ASMPT will drive essential training programs, advanced R&D, and foster a thriving ecosystem.”

In a recent development, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Tata Electronics’ two new semiconductor facilities in Dholera, Gujarat, and Jagiroad, Assam. The Gujarat facility, marking the country’s first semiconductor fab, is set to receive an investment of INR 91,000 crore, while the Assam plant, dedicated to assembly and testing, will see an investment of INR 27,000 crore. These state-of-the-art facilities are expected to create approximately 50,000 direct and indirect jobs, significantly boosting India’s economic and technological landscape.

The collaboration with ASMPT will also focus on workforce training, service engineering, automation, R&D in semiconductor packaging, and sustainability efforts. Robin Ng, Group CEO of ASMPT, expressed enthusiasm about the venture, stating, “Partnering with Tata Electronics aligns with our goal to establish a robust global electronics supply chain in India. Together, we will drive innovation and develop the talent needed for future growth.”

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to position India as a significant player in the global semiconductor market, aiming to provide a resilient alternative to the current supply chain disruptions. The partnership with Tokyo Electron for equipment and services further underscores Tata Electronics’ commitment to advancing India’s semiconductor capabilities.
