Often seen in business casual attire with a composed demeanor, Muralikrishnan B, President of Xiaomi India, has played a pivotal role in steering the tech giant back to the forefront of India’s smartphone market. With a blend of calm professionalism and strategic insight, Muralikrishnan has guided Xiaomi through a series of challenging phases to reclaim its position as the number one smartphone brand in India.

At a recent Qualcomm event, Snapdragon For India, where the global launch of the Snapdragon 4S Gen 2 5G-enabled processor took center stage, Muralikrishnan made headlines by announcing that Xiaomi will be the first manufacturer to introduce a smartphone with this new chipset to the Indian market later this year. The upcoming device is set to be the most affordable 5G smartphone in India, priced under Rs 10,000, further solidifying Xiaomi’s commitment to delivering high-tech solutions at accessible prices.

Muralikrishnan’s journey with Xiaomi began in 2018 when he joined as Chief Operating Officer, following a successful tenure at Jabong. His entry into Xiaomi coincided with a transformative period for the company, as he worked alongside Xiaomi India’s founding Managing Director, Manu Kumar Jain. When Jain left, Muralikrishnan stepped into the role of President, ushering in a strategic overhaul that rejuvenated the brand’s presence in India.

Reflecting on his tenure, Muralikrishnan describes his experience with Xiaomi as a “fairytale,” marked by a mix of triumphs and tribulations. “It’s been a journey of multiple emotions, highs and lows, and everything in between,” he notes. His tenure has been characterized by strategic pivots that have been crucial in navigating Xiaomi through India’s dynamic market landscape.

Under Muralikrishnan’s leadership, Xiaomi has not only regained its market dominance but also set new benchmarks in affordability and innovation. His strategic acumen and ability to adapt to market changes have been instrumental in driving Xiaomi’s success in one of the world’s largest and most competitive smartphone markets.
