Discovering the right PG (paying guest accommodation) in India has been a daunting process full of uncertainty, surprise costs, and lack of transparency. For young professionals and students moving to new cities, the experience tends to cause stress at a time when they ought to be working on their future. Solving this same issue, Shelterly came into existence as India’s first PG marketplace specifically created for that purpose, by Sahil Sharma and Vishal Choudhary, with an aim to make relocation easier, smarter, and stress-free.

The Beginning of Shelterly

The concept of Shelterly came into being due to the co-founders’ personal plight during their days in college. Sahil and Vishal found out firsthand just how unnecessarily painful it was to get good quality accommodations that are safe, verified, and trustworthy. It began as a grassroots effort near St. Joseph’s University, Bangalore, and soon picked up steam thanks to students and the management of the institution.

By Feb 2025, Shelterly officially went live… In just a few months, it onboarded 80+ PGs and placed 100+ tenants.Today, Shelterly’s network already spans 5,000+ beds across Bangalore, proving the immense demand for a transparent PG solution. With a PG market worth over $8.8 billion in India and rising urban migration, Shelterly is strategically positioned to scale into multiple cities and become the default housing partner for students and young professionals.”

What Shelterly Provides

Shelterly has established its pillars on trust, innovation, and user experience. Its services are more than just a mere listing website:

PG Marketplace – Transparent listings with open pricing, images, and special partner benefits, all with no brokerage fees.

PG Management Software – A mobile-centric SaaS platform that enables PG owners to manage tenants, rents, and day-to-day activities with ease.

PG Marketing Services – Custom digital marketing assistance to enable PG owners to fill the properties sooner.

Full PG Management – Operational management under the Shelterly brand, so owners and tenants have smooth experiences.

The Mission and Vision

Shelterly’s mission is to disrupt the PG accommodation space with a platform that is transparent, efficient, and easy to use. The vision is bold but precise: to make the world where it is as simple as swiping right to find your ideal PG.

The brand embodies values that differentiate it:

Trust & Transparency – Each PG is verified for safety and reliability.

User-Centric Approach – Features developed around actual pain points of users.

Continuous Innovation – Continuously looking for new mechanisms to make the search easy.

Community Building – Facilitating interactions between PG residents and owners.

Quality Over Quantity – Focusing on verified and high-quality listings versus volume.

Inclusive Access – Providing quality PGs accessible to all budgets.

The Road Ahead

With 5,000+ beds already under its umbrella, Shelterly is now building the foundation to expand into multiple cities. The goal is to bring 50,000 beds under management in the next 24 months, establishing Shelterly as India’s category leader in the PG ecosystem. From humble roots to its increasing footprint in Bangalore, Shelterly has already left its impression on the student housing landscape. It is now not only a platform but a movement to revolutionize the process of finding accommodation, managing it, and living it out. With plans to expand to several cities in India, the company is poised to transform the PG industry at a national level.

As Co-founders Sahil Sharma and Vishal Choudhary described, Shelterly is not so much about rooms, it’s about establishing a community-driven ecosystem of secure, verified, and user-friendly living spaces that empower students and professionals to succeed.
