Dr. Goutam Nag’s life is a celebration of music, knowledge, and cultural service. A scholar with vision and an artist with devotion, he has carved out a unique space in the world of Indian classical music. For more than four decades, Dr. Nag has balanced the role of teacher, researcher, and performer, making him one of the most respected names in musicology today.

His association with Rabindra Bharati University has been long and distinguished. Rising from faculty member to Professor of Musicology, he went on to serve as Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Director of the Performing Art Therapy Centre, and even as the Officiating Vice-Chancellor. In each capacity, he worked towards enriching the academic landscape and bringing Indian classical music to the forefront of higher education.

With a Ph.D. in Vocal Music and postgraduate degrees in both Music and Bengali Literature, Dr. Nag’s expertise spans multiple disciplines. His specialization in Musicology, Classical Vocal Music, Santoor, and Literary Studies reflects his wide-ranging contributions. His lectures and keynote addresses—delivered across India and beyond—have shed new light on the evolution of music, comparative musicology, and the impact of sound on human well-being.

As an author and editor, he has enriched music scholarship through works such as Indian Classical Music Mapping of Kolkata and Rabindranather Sangeet Chinter Nana Dik. His leadership in projects like the Kolkata Music Mapping under UGC SAP-DRS has created invaluable documentation of India’s cultural traditions.

Beyond academics, Dr. Nag is also a soulful performer. His classical renditions have graced respected stages including the Ramakrishna Mission and cultural forums in India and abroad. His performances carry the rare blend of technical mastery and emotional expression.

For his remarkable contributions, Dr. Nag has received numerous accolades, including the Bharat Excellence Award, Life Dedicated Service Award, and the prestigious Jnanprakash Ghosh Award.
