Xiaomi has formally requested that India’s antitrust authority, the Competition Commission of India (CCI), withdraw its recent report on Flipkart, claiming it contains sensitive company data, including model-wise sales figures.

In a letter, Xiaomi urged the CCI to mandate the return and destruction of the report by parties who accessed it, suggesting that a new version be issued with redacted sensitive information. This request follows findings from a CCI investigation, which alleged that Xiaomi, Samsung, and other smartphone manufacturers colluded with Flipkart and Amazon to favor select sellers, breaching competition laws.

Xiaomi’s concerns focus on sensitive business data that should have been redacted before sharing the report. Unlike the report on Amazon, which also implicated Xiaomi, the company has not raised issues about that particular investigation.

If the CCI agrees to recall the Flipkart report, it may delay the ongoing antitrust investigation that began in 2021. The CCI recently recalled a similar report on Apple after the company claimed its commercial secrets were disclosed. The investigation’s findings revealed that major e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart prioritized specific sellers and collaborated with manufacturers to launch products exclusively on their sites, undermining fair competition and consumer interests.

According to Counterpoint Research, Xiaomi and Samsung together hold nearly 36% of India’s smartphone market, with Vivo at 19%. Xiaomi aims for the CCI to rectify the situation, allowing it to continue its investigation without compromising sensitive information.
