TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer resigned on Thursday amid pressure from the US for its Chinese proprietor to sell the famous video app, which the White House says is a safety risk. In a letter to employees, Mayer stated his decision to depart the organization comes after the political environment has sharply modified.

His resignation comes after Donald Trump ordered a ban on TikTok, until parent organization Bytedance sells its US operations to an American organization within ninety days.

I even have done significant reflection on what the company structural modifications will require, and what it means for the worldwide role I signed up for, he stated in the letter.

“Against this backdrop, and as we expect to reach a resolution very soon, it is with a heavy heart that I wanted to let you all know that I have decided to leave the company,” he stated.

Mayer, a former Disney executive, joined TikTok as its CEO in May. We admire that the political dynamics of the previous couple of months have appreciably modified what the scope of Kevin’s role might be going forward, and completely appreciate his decision.

We thank him for his time at the organization and wish him well, TikTok stated in a statement. TikTok, that’s owned by China’s ByteDance, insisted on Monday that it isn’t a national-security danger and that the authorities is performing without proof or due process.

The organization filed a suit on Monday in federal court in California towards the Commerce Department, President Donald Trump, and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, pronouncing that it sought to prevent the authorities from impermissibly banning TikTok.

President Donald Trump issued government orders in August – first was a sweeping however unspecified ban on any transaction with ByteDance to take impact within forty five days. He then ordered ByteDance to promote assets used to help TikTok in the US.

Over the past year, TikTok has attempted to put distance among its app, which it says has one hundred million US users, and its Chinese owners. It hooked up a former pinnacle Disney executive as its American CEO and named different Americans leader security officer and general counsel.
