Parkobot, a tech startup calling itself the “Airbnb for parking”, has just raised Rs 2.09 crore in a seed round led by Inflection Point Ventures (IPV). The round also saw participation from high-net-worth individuals (HNIs). The company wants to solve one of India’s biggest yet most ignored urban headaches: the daily struggle to find parking.
Founded by Amrit Choudhury, Raj Kumar Bihani, and Animesh Mukherjee, Parkobot is an IoT-powered platform that allows individuals to rent out their private parking spaces by the hour. Think of it as monetising your driveway or unused office parking during off-hours.
What is Parkobot and Why Does It Matter?
Indian cities are choking under traffic congestion. A major cause? Illegally parked vehicles and poor urban planning. Public infrastructure simply can’t keep up with the growing number of cars.
Parkobot aims to fix this by enabling:
- Real-time discovery of vacant private parking spaces
- IoT-enabled boom barriers for security and automation
- Hourly rentals for users in need of short-term parking
- Revenue generation for property owners
With over 20,000 monthly bookings, the platform has already made an impact at high-demand zones in cities like Delhi NCR and Bengaluru, though the startup remains in stealth mode as it expands.
The Technology Behind the Solution
Parkobot’s Parking Management System (PMS) is built on IoT and smart infrastructure. It includes:
- Smart boom barriers that unlock only after a valid booking
- A mobile app for pre-booking, navigation, and payment
- Backend analytics for usage patterns and pricing optimization
- Automated access and exit logs to eliminate manual tracking
This system eliminates the guesswork from parking, reduces traffic buildup, and improves the urban driving experience.
A Market Ready for Disruption
The global parking management market is valued at $114 billion, and India’s own market stands at $9.5 billion, growing at 6.5% CAGR.
“Urban parking is a huge challenge. Poor planning and lack of proper spaces lead to encroachment, congestion, and environmental issues. Parkobot is solving this using scalable, smart solutions,” said Mitesh Shah, Co-founder of IPV.
Where Will the Funds Go?
With this latest fundraise, Parkobot plans to:
- Expand into new Indian cities
- Deploy more IoT-enabled barriers
- Enhance its backend infrastructure
- Build out its product offerings
The startup is also eyeing partnerships with residential societies, commercial properties, and malls to rapidly grow its ecosystem.
What the Founders Are Saying
“Our goal is simple,” said co-founder Amrit Choudhury.
“We want to decongest streets, reduce emissions, and turn every underutilised parking spot into a valuable asset. Parkobot is a win for cities, users, and property owners.”
Why This Matters Now
With rising fuel prices, growing car ownership, and deteriorating air quality in metros, India urgently needs smarter urban solutions. Parkobot’s model has the potential to ease multiple systemic pressures—traffic, pollution, and real estate underuse—with a single tech-driven platform.
