Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has launched the Trade Connect ePlatform, a new digital tool aimed at assisting Indian exporters with essential information and resolving payment issues. This comprehensive portal serves as a single point of access for both existing and aspiring exporters, providing resources to enhance export activities.

The Trade Connect platform is designed to streamline trade processes by coordinating with Indian missions to address payment defaults by importers. The initiative has involved consultations with 133 Indian missions worldwide to better support exporters struggling with stuck payments.

Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) Santosh Sarangi emphasized that the portal will help exporters identify potential markets, understand regulatory requirements, and leverage India’s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). The platform also integrates a rules of origin certificate to ensure compliance with foreign market regulations. Additional features include information on banking and insurance services, export credit, and details on trade events and exhibitions.

Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal, who collaborated with various Union Ministries and Departments, described the platform as a “ChatGPT for exporters.” He highlighted its role in consolidating trade information and supporting small-scale entrepreneurs, crucial for achieving the goal of $2 trillion in exports.

Minister Goyal also mentioned that the platform might eventually connect with the Government’s e-Marketplace (GeM) and the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). Ongoing discussions at the ministerial level aim to ensure seamless data flow between ministries to benefit both importers and exporters.
