Bengaluru Startup Secures Growth Capital

WaterScience, a Bengaluru-based direct-to-consumer (D2C) brand specializing in non-drinking water filtration, has raised Rs 1.4 crore in fresh funding. The investment comes from Velocity, a growth capital platform backed by Peter Thiel’s Valar Ventures.

The funding marks an important milestone for the homegrown company, which aims to expand its reach and broaden its product offerings in the fast-growing water solutions market.

Mission: Making Water Safer

Founded in 2014, WaterScience has been at the forefront of solving an often-overlooked challenge: the quality of water used in homes beyond drinking. From bathing to laundry, more than 95 percent of household water use goes unfiltered, often carrying hard water, chlorine, and other contaminants.

“Our mission is to make water safer,” said the company’s founder. “With this round of funding, we’re excited to strengthen our marketing, grow faster, and expand into new product categories to serve Indian households more comprehensively.”

From Pioneers to Market Leaders

WaterScience was one of the first companies in India to introduce shower and tap filters, addressing water quality problems that impact daily life. Over the years, the startup has evolved into a category leader, offering more than 40 products across multiple segments.

Its catalog now includes:

  • Shower and tap filters
  • Appliance filters
  • Kitchen filters
  • Water softeners
  • Whole-house filtration systems

Each product is designed to tackle common issues in Indian households, such as hard water damage, chlorine exposure, and buildup of contaminants that affect skin, hair, and appliances.

Aiming for a 360-Degree Water Solutions Model

With the new funding, WaterScience plans to position itself as a complete water solutions provider, moving beyond individual filters to deliver end-to-end products for every stage of household water use.

The focus areas for growth include:

  • Expanding marketing initiatives to increase brand visibility in the competitive D2C space.
  • Launching new product categories that extend the brand’s presence in the broader water treatment ecosystem.
  • Strengthening its direct-to-consumer model with better customer engagement and support.

Riding the Wave of D2C Growth in India

The success of WaterScience reflects a larger trend in India’s consumer market: the rise of D2C brands. Consumers are increasingly seeking specialized, trustworthy products that solve specific problems. For WaterScience, that means offering targeted solutions for hard water and chlorine issues—everyday problems for millions of Indian households.

By selling directly to consumers, the company is able to keep prices competitive, maintain control over quality, and build strong brand loyalty.

Looking Ahead

With fresh funding in hand, WaterScience is now poised to accelerate its journey toward becoming India’s go-to name in non-drinking water filtration. By focusing on innovation, awareness, and expanding product lines, the brand hopes to reach more households and establish itself as a trusted household name.

The company’s long-term vision is clear: to make safe, clean water accessible for all uses in the home, not just for drinking.
