BrowserStack, a leading software testing platform, has announced its acquisition of Berlin-based bug reporting startup Bird Eats Bug for $20 million. This strategic purchase, which is BrowserStack’s fifth significant acquisition, aims to bolster its offerings in the software testing domain.

Details of the Acquisition

The acquisition involves an upfront cash payment, stock, and additional investments dedicated to enhancing Bird Eats Bug’s product development. This move is part of BrowserStack’s broader strategy to integrate advanced bug reporting capabilities into its platform, enriching its testing solutions.

Bird Eats Bug is known for its software-as-a-service (SaaS) tool that simplifies the bug reporting process. This tool enables users, even those with limited technical expertise, to generate detailed, data-rich bug reports that include instant replays, screen recordings, and comprehensive technical logs. These features facilitate quicker identification and resolution of issues for development teams.

Enhancing Bug Reporting and Testing

With the integration of Bird Eats Bug’s technology, BrowserStack aims to provide a more streamlined and unified testing experience. The acquisition is expected to significantly boost productivity by allowing teams to concentrate on building and refining products rather than managing complex testing processes.

Ritesh Arora, CEO and Co-founder of BrowserStack, highlighted the importance of the acquisition, stating, “By integrating Bird Eats Bug’s innovative approach to bug reporting into our platform, we’re not just streamlining workflows; we’re enhancing development teams’ productivity, enabling them to focus more on creating exceptional products.”

Introduction of Bug Capture

Alongside the acquisition, BrowserStack has launched a new tool named Bug Capture. This tool is designed to improve the manual testing process by allowing teams to debug issues approximately 30% faster. Bug Capture automatically consolidates all necessary technical details into a single, clear report, reducing the need for extensive communication between testers and developers and thereby increasing efficiency.

Dan Makarov, Co-founder and CEO of Bird Eats Bug, expressed enthusiasm about the future collaboration, “We’re thrilled about our future with BrowserStack. It’s challenging to imagine a more fitting partnership. My co-founder, Jacky Chung, and I are deeply impressed by BrowserStack’s team and their ambitious vision for integrating Bird Eats Bug.”

Ongoing Growth and Innovation

BrowserStack, which is valued at $4 billion, has been profitable since its inception and continues to expand its product portfolio. The company currently offers over 15 products, with 10 introduced in the past 18 months. BrowserStack is committed to investing approximately $30 million annually in product research and development to further drive innovation in the software testing industry.
