Carbon removal, encompassing both natural methods like reforestation and technological solutions such as direct air capture, is increasingly recognized as essential for meeting climate goals.

The IPCC’s Carbon Removal Imperative

According to the latest IPCC report, the world will need to remove between 5 to 16 gigatonnes (Gt) of CO2 annually by 2050 to curb the impacts of climate change. This ambitious target highlights the urgent need for scalable and effective carbon removal solutions. Angela Anderson, director of industrial innovation and carbon removal at the World Resources Institute (WRI), acknowledges that while several promising technologies are emerging, it remains too early to determine which will be most effective.
