Meme-based dating app Schmooze has successfully raised $4 million in a Series A funding round, led by Elevation Capital along with several angel investors, including founders from Ultrahuman, The Souled Store, and Paytm. This investment will primarily focus on enhancing the platform’s AI capabilities and supporting its growth initiatives.

Rapid Growth and User Engagement

Founded by Vidya Madhavan and Abhinav Anurag, Schmooze launched just ten months ago and has already attracted over a million users in India. This rapid adoption can be attributed to its unique approach to online dating, which diverges from the traditional swipe-based models prevalent in the market.

“We plan to use this funding to enhance and improve our AI systems. Currently, we are sitting on top of over a million meme interactions on Schmooze, which has strengthened our platform,” said Madhavan in a recent interview. “A good chunk of the fundraise will be allocated to product development and optimizing these algorithms to ensure they’re future-proof. Secondly, it will be directed towards growth and expansion efforts.”

Innovative Features for Meaningful Connections

Schmooze stands out in the crowded dating app landscape by leveraging artificial intelligence to create connections based on shared humor and personality traits through memes. Unlike other platforms, Schmooze promotes a lighter, more entertaining approach to dating, which has resonated particularly well with younger users.

The app boasts an impressive statistic: it has attracted three times more female users compared to traditional dating apps in India. This can be attributed to its engaging content and user-friendly interface that fosters a more inclusive environment.

Unique AI-Driven Experiences

The platform employs advanced AI technology to craft dynamic user profiles that reflect their personalities in fun and entertaining ways. One of the standout features is “Schmooze Predicts,” which provides playful insights about potential matches. Additionally, Schmooze offers features like Roast AI, which allows users to engage in witty banter mimicking a comedian’s style, and Rant AI, a responsive digital diary that gives users a sense of companionship, even when they’re not actively interacting with others.

Recent studies, including Deloitte’s 2023 Gen Z and Millennial Survey, indicate that nearly 50% of Gen Z in India feel socially disconnected despite their high levels of digital engagement.
