Arief Mohamad, the seasoned executive who recently led Flipkart’s fashion vertical, is poised to take on a new role as Chief Business Officer (CBO) at Angel One. Mohamad has formally resigned from his position at Flipkart, where he has been a significant contributor for over nine years, including his recent tenure as Vice President and Head of Fashion since November 2023.
Mohamad’s departure from Flipkart marks a notable shift in his career as he steps into the CBO role at Angel One, a leading stockbroking firm. He will be succeeding Prateek Mehta, who previously served as the Executive Director and CBO at Angel One for 18 months before his resignation. Mehta has since transitioned to a partner role at investment firm South Park Commons.
With a robust background in retail and fashion, Mohamad’s expertise is expected to bolster Angel One’s strategic initiatives. Prior to his role at Flipkart, he was associated with the FMCG chain SPAR, where he held the position of Associate Vice President and Head of FMCG (B&M) for three years.
Angel One, despite recent controversies including allegations of data breaches, continues to expand its user base. The firm reported an addition of 220,000 active investors as of June 2024, according to NSE data. The company is reportedly accelerating its growth efforts, aiming to surpass Zerodha in user acquisition in the near future.
The trend of senior Flipkart executives moving to prominent roles in other companies continues. Notably, Swiggy recently appointed Amitesh Jha, a former senior vice president at Flipkart, as CEO of its quick commerce business Instamart. Similarly, Meesho brought former Flipkart senior VP Surojit Chatterjee on board as an independent director in May.
As Mohamad prepares to take up his new role at Angel One, his transition reflects ongoing shifts in the e-commerce and financial sectors, highlighting the fluid nature of top executive positions within major companies.
