Cisco has inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in India, situated in Sriperumbudur near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The facility, launched on September 27, 2024, will focus on producing routing and switching products, beginning with the Network Convergence System (NCS) 540 series of routers.

The event featured remarks from Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Tamil Nadu Minister for Industries Dr. T.R.B Rajaa, and Cisco’s Chair and CEO Chuck Robbins. They highlighted the nearly two-decade partnership between Cisco and India, emphasizing the strategic significance of Tamil Nadu and Cisco’s long-term commitment to the country.

While specific investment details were not disclosed, Robbins stated that Cisco’s vision for India remains expansive. He reiterated the company’s dedication to sustainability, noting a continuous reduction in power consumption of its products. The company also committed to auditing wages and working hours for its factory employees, acknowledging recent layoffs as part of a broader investment shift.

“India has been an important market for Cisco for nearly three decades, and we are immensely proud of our progress and partnerships here. The inauguration of this manufacturing facility marks a significant advancement in our commitment to the region,” Robbins stated.

Minister Scindia underscored that the new facility aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of positioning India as a global manufacturing hub and will contribute to the growth of the nation’s telecom ecosystem.
