July 26, 2024 – Google is marking the commencement of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics with a special animated Doodle that highlights a unique feature of this year’s opening ceremony. For the first time in Olympic history, the opening event will not take place in a stadium but will instead feature a grand parade of athletes floating down the River Seine in Paris. The Doodle captures this moment with animated characters floating gracefully on the Seine.

The opening day of the Olympics will be packed with festivities, including a speech from the French leader, a vibrant parade showcasing athletes from over 200 participating countries, and the lighting of the Olympic cauldron. This year’s Games will run from July 26 to August 11, featuring 329 events across 32 sports disciplines. Notably, four new sports have been introduced: breaking, skateboarding, surfing, and sports climbing.
